Air Force Base Soesterberg "eighties" (Camp New Amsterdam) Scenery
AFB Soesterberg has been closed since 1 january 2009, which marked the end of military aviation at AFB Soesterberg. The area has a rich heritage, like the birth of our Royal Dutch Air Force on the grasslands of Soesterberg in 1913. There was a period where it was in use of the United States Air Force in Europe (USAFE). This arrangement was the direct result of the cold war. The AFB was then known as “Camp new Amsterdam” which was home to the american 32 Squadron.

Due to this being a significant period for the Air Force Base, we decided to virtualize the history by creating a Soesterberg “Eighties”.
NL2000 will offer this as an addition to the “standard” Soesterberg scenery. The AFB Soesterberg ” Eighties” version will feature a 31-13 runway next to the main 09-27 runway, and the old F-27 hangars are present. Furthermore, the scenery sports F-15C and F-15D jets with 32SQ markings and serial numbers. The F-15’s fly 2 sorties a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, during weekdays.
