Runway lights problem

Hi there!

I'd first like to say thanks to everyone in the Netherlands who has made this fantastic scenery for Flight Simulator. It is very detailed and high quality and transforms the simulation experience.

I have a problem with the runway lights at the NL2000v4 airports though. I am aware the lights are supposed to stay on unless you squawk 7000, however when on they do not appear on approach until I am only a few hundred yards from the runway threshold. The PAPI appears at the same time. This isn't useful when doing an approach in limited visibility!

Any idea how I can sort this?

Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom,

In fs9 and fsx the default approach and runwaylights are not in the correct patterns, they are not in the correct colors and they consist of just white and colored balls in the grass.

I never liked that and therefore I made them for nl2000 in the correct colors and patterns, and in armatures.

I checked on my computer. In poor visibility during a daylight approach the approachlights will appear at a distance slightly more than visibility; just like in the real world.
I, too, found the approach lights In nl2000 v.4 too faint. Therefore I tripeled every approachlight by programming three lights in the same place for every real world light.

This modification will soon be released together with other updates for nl2000 v.4.

PAPI's are meant for visual approaches, i.e. they should be used in VMC only.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and for clarifying that. I've just checked again and during hours of darkness the lights are visible much further out than they are during the day. During the day in good visibility the lights and PAPI do not appear until I'm a mere couple of miles from the threshold!

Regards,
Tom

Hello Tom,

There are a few more problems concerning the approachlights.
As I mentionend I didn't like the default ones.
They had the advantage, though, that they could be seen from distances larger than the ones I could make.
Therefore, in nl2000 for fs9 I made the approachlights visible up to a range of 5 nm. At larger distances the default fs9 ones were shown instead.
To achieve that I needed a fs9 variable containing information about the distance of the aircraft you're flying to a scenery object.
In fsx this variable isn't available any more.
I tripeled all approach lights for nl2000 v.4.
This is an improvement, but is still waiting for release together with other improvements and repairs.

Presently I use fsx on six monitors forming one window of 5720 x 2400.
When using multimonitor sets in Fs9/fsx, lights in general, especially approach lights, will have too big blurry dimensions. Therefore, I changed the default FS---\texture\halo.bmp. It contains four lightspots and by reducing the size of the lower left hand spot the approach and runwaylights look better on multimonitor setups, but sadly the range of their visibility decreases even a bit further that way.

Summarizing: please wait for the release of the updates for nl2000 v.4.
In them the approach and runwaylights will still not be immaculate, but I did the best I could.

Hi,

Thanks very much for clarifying. Aside from this I am enjoying your scenery very much and will wait for updates.

Thanks again,
Tom
