Excellent scenery! It's just a shame...

Hey guys,

First I'd like to congratulate you on an excellent scenery. I've finally managed to get through the marathon downloading, file organisation and installation! Starting up at Schiphol and I was very pleased indeed at that fantastic job you've done. It's quite possibly payware quality, and the fact that this quality is mirrored across much of the Netherlands, all for free, is astounding.

It's just a shame that I won't be able to use the product due to the poor framerates. I've always had it in the back of my mind that this could be a problem, and I can indeed see why, with the level of detail that has been put into this product. I'm running an AMD 64 3500+, alongside an NVidia 6800GS and 2GB of RAM, but still I get poor (almost unflyable) framerates with no AI traffic.

Of course, smaller airports are still flyable, which will be fun to fly into every now and then, but the main reason I installed NL2000 V3 was for the superb EHAM scenery. Ah well, you never know, one day I may get a super-duper computer and be able to run it smooth, and so I shall return to FS9 to use it. However, until that day I think, unfortunately, I might be clicking that "(un)install" part of the menu.

Again, thank you everyone on the NL2000 team for all the work you have put in, and congratulations to those people with a high enough spec PC to run it. I have a bad feeling that most people, though, will be in the same situation as me.

:)

EDIT - I've put this thread in the right forum now
Regards,<br>Tom Wootton

man your system is much faster then mine (p4 3ghz en 6600GT) mine is not super fast but not unplayable. You sure you dont have adware, spyware or virusses?

I think your processor is the bottleneck in this case, it will run smoothly with a minimal 3.0 Ghz processor, your processor is 2.2 Ghz.

Hi woottsbj25,

Thanks for those compliments!

I think that your system should be playable. Can you give us some settings and frame rates at exact places? Have you actually switched off the pavement markings at Schiphol? Your 2.2GHz should be perfectly suitable, as FS2004 is only singlethreaded, single processor capable. The 6800GS sounds like more powerful than my 6600GT, and I only have a 200MHz advantage (4800+ , in this case 2 X 2400MHz).

It all boils down to tuning, disabling all sorts of unneeded processes (indeed like spyware, but also telling your virus scanner that this process is OK), making sure your disk is clean and defragged, making sure you have the latest video driver, checking those video driver settings, etc. C'mon, don't bail out by just saying "my system is unplayable". If I were you, I'd have a look at adjustments we've put into the manual.

@Arjan: the AMD processors run a shorter pipeline than Intel, so that 2.2GHz is like at least a 3.0Ghz, depending on FSB speed etc. The 3500+ rating incidcates that it should be as fast as a Intel at 3.5GHz. FSB, memory speed and L2 cache play a role as well.

So get back to us about this, will you?

Regards, Peter
