Dynamic waves after installing NL2000 in FS2004

Post by johnfromoz » Wed Apr 14, 2004 3:04 am

Hi to all - I have just downloaded all 200+ Mb of NL2000 via dial-up connection - only took about a day - but it was worth it. Though I am still exploring it I am very pleased with the easy installation, the versatile control panel, and the scenery itself. :D
Having said that, I noticed one unusual change to my FS2004 after installation; the dynamic waves which used to slowly roll up to the beaches now rocket in like a cartoon played at four times the right speed! Since those waves are a pleasing effect I'd much prefer them to work properly! And I'd also rather not reinstall FS2004 - it would take months to reconstruct my old setup! :x
Has anyone had a similar experience following the addition of NL2000, and if it's directly related to the new scenery, is there any known fix? My system is capable of handling fairly heavy sceneies, normally, with all settings high. I have tried reducing details, including water detail, to no avail, and also changing the ocean settings via the NL2000 control panel, to no avail.
Otherwise - I will live with fast waves because NL2000 is well worth having!

We did not implement the waves. Although we wanted to make them, there was no time left to implement those before the release.

Dynamic waves in FS2004

Post by johnfromoz » Wed Apr 14, 2004 9:23 am

Johan,
Thank you for the quick response. I understand that the dynamic waves were not created by NL 2000, but my question is, if installing NL2000 has caused the rapid increase in the movement speed of the standard FS2004 dynamic waves, is there any fix for it?

The scenery should not change anything to the waves. Do you see this faster waves all over the world? Or just around our scenery?

Hi Arno,
The fast waves are world-wide. The only change to my system was the installation of NL2000 so I guess it may be related. I have tried various options in the NL2000 control panel, and also in the FS2004 display options, and am reporting it in case others have the same experience. But otherwise, the more I see of NL2000 the more I like it, and I have had none of the other problems reported on the forum. The whole installation process, the manual, the control panel and scenery itself are very well thought out.

That is very strange. The installation of the scenery should not affect the effect files of the waves in any way. Have you tried to replace the wave effect again with the origional from the FS CD? That might solve it.

Thanks Arno. No, I have not tried that. I did take a look at the CDs but couldn't identify a file specific to dynamic waves. I don't want to do a full reinstall - I guess I will have to live in a world were surfing is brief but dramatic
It may be only coincidence that it started after installing NL2000 and if there's a relationship (maybe peculiar to my system) it's a small thing, as being able to actually see decent scenery is well worth it.

The effects are in the effects folder of FS. But I don't know which one is exactly for the waves.

dynamic waves after installing nl2000

Post by larry » Wed Apr 28, 2004 3:03 am

Hello Arno,

I have to say that i am extremly upset over watching the dynamic waves quicly jumpin from ocean to shore and then going back again jumping back and forth all over the shore etc. I have been a fs fan for 10 years and this problem has totaly reduced my fs experience in the area that i fly in it is very annoying. I would appreciate it if you would try to find an answer to this problem because re-installing would really be an impossible task since i have at leat 50 or 60 addons . I dont want to query other forums about how to correct this problem because your scenery is so beautiful and you have done such a great job i dont want to cause any negative discussion about something we could solve here. Since there is another user having the identical problem im sure it is not my computer. I have tried to find the problem by re-installing some files but there are so many that could affect dynamic waves. Please try to find an answer.

thank you

Larry

Hello Larry,

We will try to find it, but until now only two people reported this problem. I don't see the problem on my own PC for example.

The NL2000 scenery should also not affect any of the files related with the waves.

Have you already tried to reinstall the effect files only (I do understand that reinstalling the entire FS again is no option)?

Hi Arno,
I have just completely reinstalled the base FS9, but saved scenery.cfg and all my addon scenery folder intact (yes, I'll need to patch up bit by bit for stuff in the main texture folder etc!), to re-insert.
I hoped I'd be able to tell you it solved the problem but I still have fast waves. Maybe the only answer would be to also reinstall all the addon sceneries right from the start - no thanks!
The waves are just a small part of the FS world, and of course I will enjoy the Netherlands anyway (I can go to Hawaii if I want to surf!) - but I wish I could turn them off, at least.
Thanks for your efforts. If I discover an answer I'll let you know, just in case you hear more from anyone about the energetic water dynamics. Meanwhile I'll settle down this weekend for a low, slow tour and enjoy the scenery.
Regards to the team,
JohnFromOz

Hello
The fix required for this wave speed up is in the texture folder of the effects folder on the original disc for fs9. It is named fx_swoosh also whilst there replace the file fx_swoosh2 and fx_falls. All three files are on the FS9 disc one.
An overzealous third party scenery file has overwritten these files and because they were half the size made the waves faster and waterfalls spray transparent rectangles,Other posts and key words ie, ,Black or white rectangles, waves, ocean surf, waters edge, poodles on heat, etc
Thanks to help from Tim and Shep on Visual flight forum.
